Christel House Indianapolis at Manual

Christel House Indianapolis received the keys to Manual high school on July 1.

Executive Director Dr. Sarah Weimer and her team were accompanied on a tour of the building and grounds by Manual Alumni Association President Alice Glover.

“We are very excited to make plans for Manual and Christel House’s future in this beautiful, historic structure,” stated Weimer.  We look forward to the expanded academic, career, JROTC, and arts opportunities Christel House Academy students will have access to once the renovations are complete and we can begin operating the Academy South K-12 program in the space. We are also eager to hear more about the needs of Manual and Christel House families and making Manual the community serving campus the southside deserves.”

Dr. Weimer noted that even though Christel House has not been able to physically assess the building until now, progress has been made.  She stated, “We are thrilled to have Robb King serve as the Principal of Manual High School.  We have also hired Schmidt Associates as the Architecture and Engineering firm to oversee the renovations that will allow us to move our Christel House South campus to Manual in 2021.”

For Glover, she enjoyed showing off the school and its history with the Christel House team. “There are a lot of memories,” she says. “ I’m glad they’re keeping it up and I’m glad it’s still going to be here.”

Before renovation begins, Weimer and her team plan to participate in and host public meetings to gather more input from southside residents regarding their desires.  She said, “It is our goal to respect the traditions and history of Manual while providing the current southside community with variety of new education options that meet current-day needs.”
